Southern Vermont Cable - Dummerston

The Grant Award

Southern Vermont Cable has been awarded $117,397 to expand services to as yet unserved addresses in Dummerston. The award requires meeting or exceeding the VTAs minimum for combined download and upload speeds of five megabits per second.

The VTA made the award through the Notice of Grant Funding announced on January 31, 2013. The program provides incentives to broadband providers to reach the most rural locations. Funding was made possible by an appropriation of the Legislature in the FY2012-2013 Capital Budget, requested by Governor Peter Shumlin as part of the Connect VT initiative.

Where Will Broadband Extensions Be Constructed?

In Dummerston, new service will become available along all or portions of:

  • Dutton Farm, Emery Hill, Kipling, Knapp East, Miller, Nourse Hollow, Park Laughton, Spaulding Hill, and Tucker Reed Roads.

The list of locations eligible for the grant program was compiled using data collected from service providers through Vermont’s Broadband Mapping Initiative. This award involves two Target Grant Areas and seven locations.

The project will involve extensive infrastructure construction and must be completed by August of 2014.
