GAW HIGH-SPEED INTERNET - Chittenden, Ira & Pittsford

The Grant Award

The Vermont Telecommunications Authority (VTA) awarded GAW High-speed Internet Services $64,100 to expand broadband services in three Vermont communities: Chittenden, Ira and Pittsford. The service must meet the grant’s minimum requirement to offer a combined upload and download speed of 5 Mbps.

The list of locations eligible for the grant program was compiled using data collected from service providers through Vermont’s Broadband Mapping Initiative. The wireless broadband service is targeted to reach 11 addresses that other service providers have not been able to serve and is scheduled to be complete before June 15, 2014.

The VTA made the award through the broadband grant round it announced on January 31, 2013. The program provides incentives to broadband providers to reach the most rural locations. Funding was made possible by an appropriation of the Legislature in the FY2012-2013 Capital Budget, requested by Governor Peter Shumlin as part of the Connect VT initiative.
