Southern Vermont Cable - Newfane & Putney (Complete)

The Grant Award

Southern Vermont Cable has been awarded $135,804 to expand services in two Vermont communities, Newfane and Putney. The awards require meeting or exceeding the VTAs minimum for combined download and upload speeds of five megabits per second.

The VTA made the award through the Notice of Grant Funding announced on January 31, 2013. The program provides incentives to broadband providers to reach the most rural locations. Funding was made possible by an appropriation of the Legislature in the FY2012-2013 Capital Budget, requested by Governor Peter Shumlin as part of the Connect VT initiative.

The list of locations eligible for the grant program was compiled using data collected from service providers through Vermont’s Broadband Mapping Initiative. This award involves two Target Grant Areas and seven locations.

Where Will Broadband Extensions Be Constructed?

In Newfane, new service will become available

  • along all or portions of Newfane Hill Road, and
  • an extension will reach onto Grout Road.

In Putney, new service will be available on East Putney Ferry Road.

This project is complete.
